Pro bono

Technology for people who could not otherwise afford it.

I give part of my time to non-profit organisations. Free of charge, no catch, no contract hidden in the small print. Nobody doing meaningful work should be held back because the website is broken or nobody understands the server.

What I offer

Website and web application

Built new or reworked. Accessible, fast and just as usable on a phone as on a desktop.

Hosting and operations

Setting up server, domain, certificates and backups. Including handover, so you are not permanently dependent on me.

Automation

Getting rid of repetitive manual work: forms, lists, reports, and interfaces between systems that do not talk to each other yet.

Advice and a second opinion

You have a quote in front of you and are unsure whether the price and the technology make sense? I will look at it and tell you honestly what I think.

Where I say no

No pro bono work for for-profit companies, and nothing that serves a political or religious agenda, excludes people or works against them.

How it works

  1. You write to me

    By email or through the chat in the bottom right. Briefly: what you do and where things are stuck. No formal specification needed.

  2. We talk

    One conversation to work out whether I can genuinely help and what is realistic.

  3. I give a clear yes or no

    If I do not have the time, I say so straight away instead of stringing you along. Where I can, I suggest an alternative.

  4. Delivery and handover

    At the end everything belongs to you: access, code, documentation. You should be able to carry on without me.

Honestly, up front

I do this alongside work and further training. That is why I only take on one or two projects at a time, and delivery takes longer than at a paid agency. In return you get someone who actually sees it through.
